[ It's a late night in the Cat dorm, and everything is … peaceful? ]
[ Aoko's curled up in her own bed, wrapped around the small plush dove Kaito had gifted her with months back. Her breathing is soft and even, her sleep sound. ]
[Puma is actually managing to sleep at night. It might not be true in an hour or two, but for now, his sleep is dreamless. He's spread out on the couch bed, sheet thrown to one side from all his original tossing and turning.]
[ It's not often they get nights like this, with both of them sleeping at the same time. Sometimes Aoko's the one awake, paging quietly through a book or playing a video game with the volume on low. More often, it's Puma – he reads her books too, she thinks. It'd be adorable if it wasn't another sign of how little sleep he manages to get. ]
[ Maybe it'll last. ]
[ Maybe they'll both sleep through until morning, and they'll wake up feeling refreshed. ]
[ Or maybe, eventually … the peace will start to crumble beneath a wave of static, under a fissure of fragmented memories. Allison? Epsilon? Allison, Allison? A too-small, closed room with a quill and ink and books on the walls? South? ]
[There are...walls, eventually. None with ink and quills, but a memory of a memory. Walls of cold steel. Furniture with rounded corners. He knew he was stuck somewhere, somewhere he didn't want, he thought too much, he was too trapped.]
[It was making him restless, shifting again, but...it's not bad. Not bad yet, something he could sleep through.]
[ She hears it, vaguely, in her sleep, and she shifts as well. Rolls over with a groggy mumble, burying her face into her pillow. ]
[ Sometimes she sleeps through his nightmares. (Sometimes she even sleeps through her own.) Sometimes, as much as she hates to admit it, she doesn't even notice until it's too late and he's already snapped himself awake. ]
[After both of them have had some time to rest from Nyssa shenanigans and after the Taks have come and gone asking for quests, Tama is approaching Aoko in the dorm.]
....hey.
I'm guessing you've heard from Nightingale and Daisy by now.
[ She's sat on the couch again, curled up and tucked into a ball right in the corner of it. There's an open book on her lap, ignored, just like it has been for the past half hour. ]
Tama? [ Jerks her head up to look at him. ] Oh—yeah. I heard about Isabel-san. [ Even her hair seems to droop. ]
The Echoes are a lot more like us than most people realize.
[ … or like to think about. ]
It happens to them just like it does to us … even patrons. Isabel-san is the second one Takshaka's lost in just over a month. Most teams have lost a patron by now.
I guess I...never thought about it much. I know the echoes can't go back home but I thought their current condition was at least... ...more stable than ours, as long as they had people to think about them and do quests and games for them.
[He runs a hand over his face.]
...Isabel ran one of the first games I was ever in.
[ Aoko had been so lost in thought that she almost jumps out of her skin when he speaks – and that leads to her super gracefully slipping in the snow, pinwheeling for balance and ]
[ There's nothing like taking a long, meandering walk to clear your head, particularly after you spent last night engaged in a desperate battle against people (people) who didn't want to die any more than you yourself did. ]
[ She's not paying any attention to where she's walking, maybe she will accidentally bump into somebody!! ]
You're gonna slip into the river, walking 'round in that kind of daze. [Popping up beside her, a kitten on her shoulder and a Rattata on the round by her feet.]
[ … To Aoko’s credit, despite the high pitched yelp of surprise and the way she jumps half a mile, Puma’s managed to drill some reflexes into her. Her hand’s on her grappling hook and her stance is defensive before she can consciously think about it ]
[ And her hand is straight back off it again as soon as she recognises the speaker. ]
[ That is distinctly less to Aoko's credit. God, if Kaito or Puma knew just how jumpy she was getting, they'd probably both grow feathers and start clucking. ]
[ She turns red, hands jumping to her scarf. ]
A-Ahaha, it's—it's been a long day. [ Night, day, whatever. She's managed to rest some at Tiamat, but she hasn't exactly slept. ] Where, uhm. [ She glances around. ] Where am I?
DAY 181, MORNING
Hey, I'm gonna be with Iota for a day or two. ( ̄▽ ̄)ノ Just wanted to let you know.
Re: DAY 181, MORNING
If she tries to kiss you just punch her in the face.

Day 198
....hey.

...does this. Happen a lot? To the echoes? I know it happens to us off and on, but... [He sighs.]
