[ Oh my god it's a giant blob of green jelly and it's GOING TO EAT ME. ]

K-Kaito! [ Yelping as she yanks back against her staff, hoping to free it. ]

There's some weird blue stuff in -- in, I think it's over there [ FRANTIC HEADBOB ] -- maybe that'll do something to it?! [ it's a wild guess, but it's A JELLY ALIEN MONSTER, if lasers don't work maybe chemicals will ]

[the green blob yanks back against the staff and growls, the gelatin around its throat bubbling as it does so. it lifts its other hand waaaay above Aoko's head, like it plans on slamming it down on top of her--]

Hang on--!

[but Kaito moves, and he moves fast, kicking against the ground as he bolts towards the jelly monster. he raises his weapon and takes a shot at the creature, which strikes its arm directly!]

[. . .]

[but instead of slicing the arm clean off, the entire monster flashes red for a moment. an HP bar suddenly appears above it's head, revealing that about 3/4ths of its hit points remain.]

[but hey. at least it withdraws both hands, lets go of Aoko's staff and turns towards Kaito instead, right???]

[ SCREEEEEEE ... but before Aoko can react, Kaito is there, shooting at the creature, distracting it ]

Keep that thing occupied for a second! I'm, I'm gonna try something!

[ She trusts him to be okay. She doesn't trust this to work, but her staff clearly doesn't, and she has to do something to help him out! So she bolts back to the fridge to grab some of those blue bottles. HOW DO THESE THINGS OPEN, CAN SHE OPEN ONE, because if yes she's going to do so and then throw it at the jelly monster ]

[THE VIAL OPENS EASILY YES! while she does that, Kaito whistles at the blob and darts to the left, trying to keep its attention away from his partner in crime]

Over here, ugly!

[jelly blob doesn't take kindly to being called ugly. it snarls angrily and lashes out with a huge, sticky hand to swat at the fleeing magician. Kaito curses and leaps forwards into a dodge roll, just barely avoiding impact. he pops up again in a crouch and aims to take another shot at the creature--]

[before he can fire, the vial Aoko throws at the alien hits it in the back and shatters upon impact. there's a loud HISSING noise as ice crystals form across the creature's body and the ground beneath it. the contents of the bottle have frozen the alien in place!1]

[the HP bar now reveals 1/4 hit point left]

[ ... IT WORKED!!1 ]

[ Aoko darts in the rest of the way, whipping out a hand to splash the monster with another vial of mysterious blue liquid ]

[more hissing and ice crystals fill the room as the alien solidifies even more]

Great, Aoko. . .!

[Kaito squeezes the trigger of his weapon, and the laser beam strikes the blob directly in the head. and then. . . ]

[the frozen blob shatters, spreading gelatin pieces all over the floor. the platinum puzzle piece lies between them. the 3D number 300 hovers in the air]

Three hundred points to player two.

[ Aoko just stands there for a moment, gawking. ]

We ... We did it? [ Staring at the place where the monster had been, and then at the '300' hovering in mid air. The puzzle piece is on the ground -- she crouches, scooping it into her hands. ]

We did it!

[. . .]

-- wait, why the heck do you get the points?

[as he speaks, the frozen gelatin pieces begin to glitch out and disappear, just like the salad shooter alien from earlier]

Maybe because Iota-san knows kill sniping when she sees it?

[ Grins at him as she jumps back up to her feet, puzzle piece safely inside her inventory. ]

[WOW THAT'S RUDE. he grumps and meanders over to her to thunk her helmet again. if only because he can't ruffle her hair while she's wearing it]

Cheater!

[ Ducks back, sticking her tongue out at him with an emphatic NYEHHHH. ]

You're the one who was trying to steal my points, Bakaito!

No way! I was saving you from getting squished.

[perhaps he is too busy being faux grumpy, but as Kaito picks on her, he doesn't hear the sound of one baby alien stumbling through the small crack of the welded door. which means he doesn't hear it charge straight at his back, either]

[Aoko sees it, though]

[ She sees it. ]

Hey—!

[ And, oh god, for a second there she wishes it wasn’t charging, because it’s only a baby and she doesn’t want to hurt a baby – but it is and it’s going to hurt Kaito, and – and she jumps forward, pushing Kaito out of the way, staff swinging to whack it over the head. ]

[Aoko's staff cracks against the baby alien's head just as its blade pierces her stomach]

[the pain from the blow is more akin to what she might feel if something scratched her torso: a minor sting, and nothing more. it's accompanied by the corners of her vision flashing red, though that only lasts for a second or two. meanwhile, the baby alien glitches out and disappears, predictably leaving the number 50 behind]

Fifty points to player two.

[Aoko may also find that her stomach is bleeding a little bit, but the injury is only a small scrape. her HP meter reports 80% of her HP remains]

[Aoko shoves Kaito out of the way before he can even process what's happening, and the force of the push sends him stumbling to the side. he catches his balance quickly and pivots on his heel just in time to see the flash of the baby alien's blade, hear the crack of metal against alien skull, and experience the sensation of his heart leaping into his throat]

Aoko--!

[stupid, stupid, stupid, why weren't you paying attention?! you got too cocky! as the alien baby disappears in the blink of an eye, his hand darts out to grab at Aoko's arm, concern written all over his expression]

Oi! Are you okay?!

[justichthys]

[ Ah, that … … … … ]

[ That didn't hurt nearly as much as she'd been expecting. ]

[ Aoko blinks hard, her hands pressed against the wound. The red flash in her vision was alarming to say the least, and the faint burn of pain she feels suggests that she is, indeed, bleeding—but it feels like it's no worse than a scratch. ]

I'm … fine?

Fine?! You were just--

[IMMEDIATELY EXAMINES HER. . . stomach. . .?]

-- stabbed?

[no. gaping wounds?? cue confusion]

[ She has to move her hands first, to let him get to the 'wound', but she does so readily. ]

My, uhm ... my vision flashed red for a second, and my HP gauge has dropped down to eighty percent.

I s'pose we owe Iota some credit.

[he glances over at the welded door to find that the rest of the baby aliens are still suck at the crack. w-whew. it was just a single stray]

She doesn't ... seem like she's a bad person at all. She's just. Uhm. [ w-waves a hand ] She really is just like a kid, in some ways.

[ she glances over as well, shifting edgily ]

We should probably get out of here.

You definitely don't need to tell me twice.

[and with that, he beeline towards the exit. though not without giving one last glance at her torso, just in case]

[ it's just a scratch, no gaping wounds over here! ]

So, uhm. [ Hurrying along with him, staying close. ] Those health bars we brought along—should I try one now, to see how much they heal, or should we hold off?

[pokes his head out of the infirmary and back into the dark hallway. he glances left and right, before quietly stealing across said hallway to the door on the opposite side. this one is labeled MESS HALL]

I'd wait until you're at 50% health or lower before taking one of those. I doubt there's anything around here that can take out 80% of your hit points in one blow.

Kaito! [ HISSSSS. ] You can't say things like that! Now we're gonna run straight into a boss battle.
